A patient recently shared their experience of undergoing knee replacement surgery at Nightingale Hospital and kindly answered some additional questions to help reassure others who may be preparing for surgery. We are incredibly grateful for their feedback and proud of the dedication, compassion and professionalism shown by our teams throughout their journey.
“Before my surgery, I was feeling very anxious about having a knee replacement. However, during my pre-operative appointment, Mr McAllen took the time to explain the procedure and answer my questions, which immediately helped put me at ease.
The booking process was straightforward and easy to follow. I received clear information throughout, particularly during my pre-operative appointment, where I was given everything I needed to know and do in preparation for surgery. This helped me feel informed and ready for the procedure.
Travelling to the hospital was simple, with my husband dropping me off at the entrance. The signage, directions and access arrangements were all very clear. While there is no dedicated parking outside the hospital, this was not a problem for us as the drop-off arrangements worked well.
From the moment I arrived, every member of staff was welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly. When you are feeling apprehensive about surgery, that kindness and reassurance make a huge difference.
The care and support I received throughout my treatment were excellent. The staff treated me as an individual and genuinely cared about my wellbeing, which helped me feel comfortable and supported at every stage.
The morning after my operation, my husband and I became concerned when we noticed significant bleeding from my wound after removing the bandage. I telephoned the Nightingale and was advised to come straight in. On arrival, the team responded quickly and professionally, taking me to a room where my dressing was removed, the wound cleaned and a fresh dressing applied.
Unfortunately, later that same day, the wound began bleeding again and I returned to the hospital. Once again, the team were outstanding. This time I was taken to the ward, where I received further dressings and a bandage and was advised to rest for a couple of days to allow the wound to settle. The nurse caring for me was wonderful and even wheeled me to my car before I left.
I cannot single out one member of staff because everyone played their part in making my experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Every person I met contributed to the excellent care I received.
The Nightingale exceeded my expectations. From the moment I entered the hospital, there was a calm and reassuring atmosphere, and that feeling continued throughout my treatment and recovery. It made a real difference to my overall experience.
For anyone feeling nervous about having surgery at the Nightingale, my advice would be not to worry. The team will look after you and provide excellent care every step of the way.
Since my operation, my recovery has been gradual and steady. By continuing at my own pace, I feel confident in my progress and able to manage my rehabilitation successfully.
I cannot praise the hospital enough. I regularly tell people what a wonderful place it is and how amazing all the staff are. The care I received was exceptional, and I am incredibly grateful for everything the team did for me.”
