About our services

The Devon Diagnostic Centre is a community diagnostic centre (CDC) that provides diagnostic imaging services; a CT, MRI, X-ray, EOS, Ultrasound as well as other non-imaging diagnostic such as cardiac and respiratory diagnostics.

This wide range of technology in a single location gives patients access to a co-ordinated set of diagnostic tests, away from busy acute hospitals, in fewer visits, enabling faster diagnosis and treatment of a range of conditions.

CDCs are part of a national programme which aims to move elective diagnostic tests and pathways into the community and away from acute hospitals, as part of the 10-Year Health Plan for England.

They combine diagnostic services with specialist teams to provide co-ordinated appointments in a “one stop” approach, where patients can receive quicker diagnosis, or ongoing monitoring, in fewer visits to hospital.

The Devon Diagnostic Centre provides diagnostic services to patients across Devon with referrals from the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The department is open for outpatient appointments from 8am – 8pm, seven days a week.

Examples of the services we provide at the Devon Diagnostic Centre include;

  • One stop pathway for quicker diagnosis for sarcoma, lung cancers and gynaecology
  • Trans nasal endoscopy procedures for diagnosis and treatment of gastroenterological issues
  • One stop orthopaedic pathways incorporating imaging services and specialist medical input including; young adult hip, scoliosis, shoulders, and knees
  • Respiratory specialty services that combine respiratory diagnostic tests with specialist nurse or consultant input

 

Meet the senior team

Dr Andrew Redfern 

Andrew Redfern is the Clinical Director for Medical Imaging at the Royal Devon Eastern. He has been a Consultant Radiologist for 23 years. Part of his job is the development of the Devon Diagnostic Centre at the Nightingale Hospital. This is an asset which is being used to reduce waiting times and improve patient experience for elective diagnostic tests and procedures from across Devon.

Andrew lives in East Devon with his wife and dog, Wilson. He is a keen Exeter Chiefs supporter and works for them imaging injuries when they occur. He also enjoys kitesurfing, tennis and playing in a rock band.
