The Centre of Excellence for Eyes Team, supported by Spectrum and Surgicube whose generosity enabled the team’s attendance, has once again been honoured as a finalist at the prestigious Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards, which showcase “the best of the best in Healthcare innovation.”
Clinical Lead, Elizabeth Wilkinson expressed the team’s delight at being shortlisted for the Performance Recovery Award, noting that although they did not win, “we know that our service is already winning for our patients in Devon.”

The team’s innovative pathway, Rapid Cataract Recovery Through See-and-Treat Bilateral Surgery: A Scalable NHS Performance Model, has earned significant national and international recognition. Elizabeth Wilkinson highlighted that the model “is acknowledged by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, by NHS England and the Get It Right First Time team as a Best Practice Pathway” and is now “being used as a model for National pathways in other countries.”
Reflecting on the achievement and the team behind it, Elizabeth added, “We couldn’t be prouder of the team and their achievements.”
